Gift ideas for the young geek reader

Submitted by Patrick Hogan on December 11, 2008 - 11:41am

You can always tease parents with the adage that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Guessing that ALA TechSource readers may want to share their sci-tech passions with youngsters on their gift list, I'm linking to this list from Booklist Online's free newsletter REaD ALERT: Top Sci-Tech Books for Youth: 2008.

I'm one of the legions of people who owns but has not read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time. Heck, I even own but have not read a handsome, hardbound, cased set of  The Feynman Lectures on Physics, a comp from my days as a publishing sales rep that I didn't want to give up. So, to get me started, I'm attracted to Einstein Adds a New Dimension, by Joy Hakim. The reviewer suggests the title for Grades 7-12, right where my physics education left off, and notes that it's for readers "who enjoy having their intellects stretched" (but not broken).

REaD ALERT mails the same day that the latest issue of Booklist is published on Booklist Online and presents selected features and reviews, including reading for adults. You can subscribe here.
