What are ALA TechSource Workshops and how do they work?
ALA TechSource Workshops are designed to give you and your staff the opportunity to participate in a hands‐on learning experience that will help you make the best technology decisions for your library. The workshops are conducted using Cisco Webex, an interactive online platform that allows attendees and instructors to interact and share through chat, voice, and a wide variety of interactive media.
You can register for ALA TechSource Workshops at the ALA Store, where you’ll be given a registration password that will allow you to complete the process at our Webex site.
For more detailed instructions on the registration process, please click here.
How do I purchase access to an ALA TechSource Workshop?
You can purchase access at the ALA Store. When you purchase access, you’ll receive a PDF that contains instructions on how to complete your registration. Those instructions will direct you to the event’s page on our Webex Site and provide you with a password. At the page on our site, you’ll register for the event, entering your name an e-mail address. You’ll then be prompted for your password. One you’ve registered successfully, you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation that includes the URL you’ll use to attend on the date of the event. You’ll also receive e-mail reminders as the event approaches.
Are the events only offered live, or can you view an archive?
ALA TechSource Workshops are live events, but all attendees are given access to an archive of the event, which can be viewed at any time. The archive contains a video representation of the event, which includes all chat, audio and visual material. The biggest difference between the archive and the live event is that when participating in the live event, you can interact with the presenters and other attendees while in the archive, of course, you cannot.
Can I purchase access to the archive for an event that occurred in the past?
Yes, you can. We make archives available for purchase at the ALA Store 4-6 weeks after the live event is complete. To purchase access to the archive, just contact us by e-mail.
How do I know if my computer can run the Webex software?
If your computer was purchased in the last 4-5 years, it is likely that it can. Webex runs smoothly on both Windows and Mac OS and common browsers. You can run a systems test here to ensure that you are able to run Webex. If you’re not sure you’ve participated previously in a WebEx webinar, run this test in advance of the Event. You may need to download and install a browser plugin.
Do you offer a group rate?
ALA TechSource Workshops are licensed for single site use on a single computer. You are welcome to view the Workshop with colleagues. Only one registered user will be able to participate in the Workshop. You can share the archive with colleagues in your organization.
